LAZIK, PRK, and LAZEK eye surgeries

Excimer laser surgery of the cornea is to reduce or correct refractive errors of the eye. The use of LASIK is to reduce or eliminate Hyperopia (farsightedness), Myopia (nearsightedness), Astigmatism, and getting rid of spectacles, but LASIK cannot be performed in patients with high myopia

In LASIK surgery, a layer of the corneal tissue is cut and removed, and once it is reshaped, the layer is laid back in place. But, in LAZEK and PRK, the most superficial corneal layer is reshaped and treated without excision, and therefore complications such as corneal flap displacement, etc., do not occur in LAZ. Patient’s corneal thickness is important when ophthalmologist prescribes LASIK surgery so if the patient’s cornea is too thin, a LAZEK is usually recommended instead of a LASIK

The surgery is relatively new and is a type of LASIK that is performed with a femtosecond laser. The layer removed (flap) by Femto LASIK is thin and it is possible to remove a 90 micron thick layer off cornea and the possible complications of femto-Lasik are less than LASIK, but the possibility of Keratoconus in the thin cornea is still higher than that of LAZEK

Ophthalmologists always recommend using eyeglasses, but there are still some people who do not like glasses and prefer to live without glasses. There are two solutions for these people, contact lenses and LASIK. Contact lenses have been available in the market for about 90 years and are now easily accessible and useable and many people use them to live without glasses and to a great extent for beauty

The risk of LASIK is much lower than normal contact lens because it always puts the eye at risk, but the only risk in Lasik surgery is during the surgery and the following days. However, it should be noted that LASIK surgery has its own conditions, for example; a person’s eye number should be fixed and used according to their needs

Cost of LASIK surgery in Iran, compared to all countries in the world and even Bangladesh is very low, while the technology of existing devices in Iran is also superior to those of European countries
